Quick answer

Bulk SMS in India costs an indicative ₹0.12 to ₹0.16 per promotional message and ₹0.16 to ₹0.22 for transactional and OTP, excluding GST. International rates run from ₹0.55 per SMS in the United States to ₹4.80 in Australia. Three things move the price: the destination country, whether the message is promotional or transactional, and the script — non-Latin text encodes at 70 characters a segment instead of 160, so the same sentence costs two to three times more.

The first is the country. India is the cheapest high-volume market in the world at around ₹0.15; the Gulf runs ₹2 to ₹4; the United States is cheap per message but needs 10DLC registration first.

The second is the message category. Transactional and OTP traffic runs on routes tuned for latency and costs more than promotional. A provider quoting one blended rate for both is either overcharging you for promotional or putting your OTPs on a slow route.

The third is the script, and it is the one that surprises people. Latin text in GSM-7 gives you 160 characters per segment. Hindi, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese or Tamil encode as UCS-2 at 70 characters, so a message you think is one segment is three. We count segments on your actual copy before you commit to a volume rather than after the first invoice.

Indicative, in INR, excluding GST. Promotional at the low end of each band, transactional and OTP at the high end. Non-Latin script costs more because it uses more segments, not a higher per-segment rate. Final rates confirmed in writing before you commit.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

Indicatively ₹0.12 to ₹0.16 per promotional SMS and ₹0.16 to ₹0.22 for transactional and OTP, excluding GST. Where you land depends on monthly volume. DLT registration of your entity, headers and content templates is required before sending and normally takes 3 to 7 working days.

Because it runs on a different route. Transactional and OTP traffic is carried on interconnects tuned for latency rather than cost, so an OTP arrives in seconds rather than minutes. A provider quoting a single blended rate for both is putting your OTPs on the promotional route.

The per-segment rate is identical, but the segment is smaller. Latin text in GSM-7 holds 160 characters per segment; Hindi, Arabic, Bangla, Chinese and Tamil encode as UCS-2 at 70. A message that is one segment in English can be three in Hindi, so it costs three times as much to send.

Setup starts at ₹9,999 and covers sender ID or DLT registration and account setup. Message credits are bought separately and there is no expiry on unused credit.

India, at roughly ₹0.15 per message, is the cheapest high-volume SMS market in the world. The United States is next at ₹0.55 to ₹1.10, though it requires 10DLC brand and campaign registration first.
